Teaching & Learning

Teaching Statement

In Fall 2015, I taught ISLT-4360/7360 Introduction to Web Development, which was migrated from Sakai to Canvas LMS. At the end of the course, students are able to create a website using HTML, CSS, and web development tools while taking in consideration accessibility standards and target audience reviews. My role as Instructional Designer has shaped my college teaching and faculty development workshops. Both students and faculty will undergo educational experiences that are tailored to their needs and goals. Two areas of my teaching include training of learning technologies and application of pedagogy to online and blended environments. I believe learners are appreciative of their learning when they have opportunities for practice and receive feedback.

Lessons from Instructional Design Practice

Here are a few reflection points from my ID profession in developing learning experiences and facilitating faculty professional development workshops.

Systems Design & Development

In my current role as an Instructional Designer, I maintain online professional development for K-12 educators called the EdHub Library, which is part of the Network of Educator Effectiveness at the University of Missouri. The EdHub Library hosts over 500 learning activities for K-12 teacher and principal professional growth. The estimated online traffic is around 38,000 users across the state of Missouri. I also develop yearly web-based trainings for principal classroom observation calibration.

At the University of Missouri, I supported the migration and redesign of online courses on Canvas LMS for the School of Information Science and Learning Technologies. These include ISLT-9471 Instructional Systems and ISLT-4361/7361 Introduction to Digital Media.

As of 2021, the search trends for COVID-19, Remote Learning, and Instructional project explores the popularity indices of search terms (Instructional Design and COVID-19) globally and in the US before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. By extracting three attributes (interest over time, interest by region, and related queries), the interactive visualizations in Tableau enable users to explore the trending patterns of multiple terms. This project serves as an archive of popularity indices to highlight the pivotal role of Instructional Design and Technology.
